Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around selecting an appropriate journal for submitting an article in High Energy Physics, specifically within the realm of formal theory. Participants explore the merits of different journals, including JHEP and Physical Review D, and consider factors influencing journal choice.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests advice on choosing between JHEP and Physical Review D for a formal theory article, noting that the article exceeds ten pages, making PRL unsuitable.
  • Another participant suggests that the choice may depend on where the paper fits better in terms of content and focus.
  • A participant observes that both JHEP and PRD appear to publish similar types of papers and seeks insights on their perception within the community.
  • One participant argues that the journal's impact may be less significant than the number of citations the paper receives.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the importance of journal selection versus citation impact, indicating that no consensus exists on which journal is definitively better or more respected.

Contextual Notes

Participants do not provide specific metrics or criteria for evaluating journal reputation, and the discussion lacks detailed comparisons of the journals' scopes or editorial policies.

Who May Find This Useful

Researchers and authors in the field of High Energy Physics, particularly those focusing on formal theory, may find this discussion relevant when considering journal submission options.

Hello, I request inputs about selecting a journal to submit an article in High Energy Physics. This is in formal theory as opposed to Particle Phenomenology. The article is more than ten pages so PRL is not an option. How would you choose between JHEP and Physical Review D? Which is rated higher by senior professors (and future reviewers). Are there other journals considered on par with JHEP and PRD.

Thank you in advance for your time and response.

Presumably you are reading those journals. Where does you paper better fit?

Thanks. Both journals seem to publish similar papers (according to me) so I thought I would find out how they are perceived by the community (or even by people in allied areas).

The journal matters less than the citations.
