Two days ago my desktop PC died. I'm about to perform a little Techromancy in an attempt to bring my desktop back to life. Wish me luck.

If anyone wants to help, grab a few resistors from the nearest store, sprinkle them on the ground in an omega symbol, and chant 'Ohhmmm...' for me. Note that doing this in front of a mirror 3 times may result in the appearance of an Ohmcheeto. You have been warned.

Don't think of it as losing a PC. Think of it as gaining an opportunity to build a new one.
 
Let it go, Drakkith. Let it rest in pieces. Maybe even recycle it properly or reuse its parts. No point in reviving imploded PCs.

Mine died yesterday. Turned out to be a bad RAM chip. Hope that yours is equally simple to fix. :oldsmile:

I wish that were it. I've got some kind of sleep issue or something. I'm always exhausted. Just had a sleep study done last night actually.

I had one of those. The power supply went bad and started shorting - to the motherboard. It would shutoff abruptly and restart, which was rather annoying. One of the managers thought I was not using the software or PC correctly.

Great that you were able to replace the power supply.

My old home PC had a motherboard go bad. My wife had a similar problem where some capacitors overheated and failed.

Periodic cleaning and ensuring proper cooling are key to longevity of a PC. Also, minimize vibration on high capacity HDs.

My PC did that several times in the last few years(after multiple organ transplants).

Well, in all fairness to my PC, the power supply was probably the oldest component in the case. I probably shouldn't be surprised it went out. I too 'transplanted' pretty much everything else in there over the past few years.

Ahh to be technical writer for computer manuals::

where i worked some wag actually wrote in a tech manual entitled
"How to use the Data General Nova Computer"

Attach fifty feet of quarter inch manila or nylon line to the Nova using a bowline or clove hitch knot
gently lower but do not throw the Nova over the bow
pay out line to approximately 3X depth of water
and secure to a bow cleat.

That's because your PC wasn't all the way dead, it was only mostly dead.
