Broadband Over Power Line (BPL) and Amateur Radio

AI Thread Summary
BPL, or Broadband over Power Lines, also known as Power-line Communications (PLC), utilizes electrical wiring for broadband internet access and networking within buildings. However, it poses significant risks to Amateur Radio and other HF radio operations. The interference caused by BPL can disrupt communication for amateur radio operators and emergency services, particularly during disasters. Experts, including representatives from the Amateur Radio Relay League, warn that the noise generated by BPL will hinder effective radio communication. There is a call to action for individuals to contact their congressional representatives to advocate against BPL implementation or to seek regulatory solutions that would allow both broadband access and shortwave radio operations to coexist.

This web page contains files and links of information about BPL and related broadband technologies and how they may adversely affect Amateur Radio and other HF radio operation. BPL is also sometimes called Power-line Communications or PLC. In-building BPL uses a building's electrical wiring to network computers within a building. Access BPL uses the electrical distribution grid to deliver broadband internet access to homes and businesses using the distribution system and building electrical wiring as a conductor. A tutorial on BPL is available on the http://www.arrl.org/tis/info/HTML/plc/#Quick_Links

BPL -Bad news for Hams and other radio listeners

According to Art Bell and the head of the Amateur Radio
Relay League BPL will be bad for all Hams, small city
Police forces and any group trying to help out with radio
communications after a disaster or other event as the HUM
from all the power lines will wipe out all of the radio
messages. We should all write our Congressmen and women
and Senators and tell them to stop this BPL project or
find a way for the FCC to allow both the Internet and
short wave radio to exist.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Thread 'ChatGPT Examples, Good and Bad'
I've been experimenting with ChatGPT. Some results are good, some very very bad. I think examples can help expose the properties of this AI. Maybe you can post some of your favorite examples and tell us what they reveal about the properties of this AI. (I had problems with copy/paste of text and formatting, so I'm posting my examples as screen shots. That is a promising start. But then I provided values V=1, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3 and asked for the value of I. At first, it said...
