Building a Low Power DiY marine bluetooth speaker set

AI Thread Summary
A DIY marine Bluetooth speaker project is being considered, focusing on a compact 1x12 speaker that can fit in boat compartments. The speaker needs to be powered externally to avoid draining the boat battery, raising concerns about finding an appropriate power source between a car battery and an RC battery. Participants discuss the benefits of DIY versus commercial solutions, noting that ready-made options start at around $90. Key considerations include wattage and battery life requirements for optimal performance. The discussion emphasizes the importance of balancing size, power, and functionality in the design.

My dad has been asking about some speakers for his boat, something that will move a bit of air, not too big though. I'm thinking 1x12. He also wants it bluetooth and powered externally, so it doesn't drain the boat battery.

So I'm thinking 1x12 speaker in a small box that can fit inside the compartments in the boat, psoc hookup for bluetooth, and then the real question is power. Spacially I think a car battery is just too big, powerwise I think something like an RC battery is too small.

Thinking of this as a DIY project, what suggestions/advice/improvements do you guys have?

Why DIY instead of an existing commercial solution? What kind of wattage and battery life are you looking for? I'm seeing 12" bluetooth speakers on Amazon (with batteries) starting at $90.

Hey guys. I have a question related to electricity and alternating current. Say an alien fictional society developed electricity, and settled on a standard like 73V AC current at 46 Hz. How would appliances be designed, and what impact would the lower frequency and voltage have on transformers, wiring, TVs, computers, LEDs, motors, and heating, assuming the laws of physics and technology are the same as on Earth?
While I was rolling out a shielded cable, a though came to my mind - what happens to the current flow in the cable if there came a short between the wire and the shield in both ends of the cable? For simplicity, lets assume a 1-wire copper wire wrapped in an aluminum shield. The wire and the shield has the same cross section area. There are insulating material between them, and in both ends there is a short between them. My first thought, the total resistance of the cable would be reduced...
I used to be an HVAC technician. One time I had a service call in which there was no power to the thermostat. The thermostat did not have power because the fuse in the air handler was blown. The fuse in the air handler was blown because there was a low voltage short. The rubber coating on one of the thermostat wires was chewed off by a rodent. The exposed metal in the thermostat wire was touching the metal cabinet of the air handler. This was a low voltage short. This low voltage...
