CAD Design of Paralever Suspension for BMW Bikes

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the request for CAD designs of the Paralever Suspension used in BMW motorcycles. Participants explore the availability of such designs, potential alternatives, and the purpose behind the request, which includes simulation work.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests CAD designs for the Paralever Suspension of BMW bikes.
  • Another participant suggests that actual CAD files may be proprietary and questions the purpose of the request, proposing that the requester might create their own designs based on measurements.
  • A third participant indicates that they want to simulate the U joint with the Paralever Suspension configuration.
  • A fourth participant shares a link to a line art image of the suspension and mentions the difficulty in finding sanctioned CAD files, suggesting that contacting BMW engineering might yield useful information, based on their past experience with another manufacturer.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There is no clear consensus on the availability of CAD files, with some participants suggesting alternatives while others express skepticism about obtaining official designs.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not established the feasibility of creating CAD designs based solely on measurements, and the discussion does not resolve the proprietary nature of the requested files.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in CAD design, motorcycle engineering, or simulation of mechanical systems may find this discussion relevant.

My guess would be the actual CAD files are proprietary information.

What do you need them for? Could you get by making them up yourself based on measurements?

I want do a simulation of the U joint with this configuration.

Found a line art for ya.

Your not going to find a BMW sanctioned CAD file. You May be able to call BMW engineering and get the info. I got some good information for a research project from Ford about the Cobra IRS rear suspension a while back. They didn't give me drawings but they sent me a lot of data and the like.

Good Luck.
