Calculating Flow Rate of a Fan Using Parameters

Click For Summary
To calculate the flow rate of a fan, key parameters include the fan's effective diameter, blade angle, number of blades, speed (RPM), power consumption, and inlet pressure. The flow rate can be determined by measuring the cross-sectional area and using an anemometer to capture the average velocity at various points. The flow rate is then calculated as the product of this average velocity and the cross-sectional area. More complex calculations may involve mechanical principles and fluid dynamics. Additional resources are available for deeper understanding of these calculations.

I wonder if there is a mathematical formula to calculate the flow rate of a fan if following parameter are known

Fan effective diameters

Blade Angle ( Pitch )

Number of Blades

Speed ( RPM )

Power Consumption

Pressure at inlet of the fan

Given a fan I would find the cross sectional area and hold an anemometer (wind speed meter) to the fan in various places. The product of the average velocity and the cross sectional area is flow rate.

I'm sure there is some complicated procedure to calculate this using mechanical principles and fluid dynamics.

This site may help.

Had my central air system checked when it sortta wasn't working. I guess I hadn't replaced the filter. Guy suggested I might want to get a UV filter accessory. He said it would "kill bugs and particulates". I know UV can kill the former, not sure how he thinks it's gonna murder the latter. Now I'm finding out there's more than one type of UV filter: one for the air flow and one for the coil. He was suggesting we might get one for the air flow, but now we'll have to change the bulb...
