Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the calibration of a thermocouple system, specifically in the context of managing excess temperature in degrees Celsius. Participants are exploring the principles and procedures involved in this calibration process.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants have raised questions about the fundamental properties of thermocouples, including their thermometric properties and setup. There is also a discussion about the implications of increasing the thickness of the metals used in the thermocouple.

Discussion Status

The conversation is ongoing, with some participants providing initial suggestions while others seek clarification on the steps involved in calibration. There is an emphasis on understanding the underlying concepts before proceeding with the calibration process.

Contextual Notes

There are indications that the original poster may lack foundational knowledge about thermocouples, as they are encouraged to research basic concepts related to their operation and calibration.

Calibrating a thermocouple HELP!

Homework Statement

I have to describe a procedure on calibrating a thermocouple system if excess temperature were required in degrees Celsius

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

I was not sure really sure on how to calibrate the system so i have no idea what do in the case of excess temperature

Physics news on Phys.org

increasing the thickness of the metals, would do the work.

Welcome to Physics Forums Joyana32!

thanks that's a start but is there any steps i should follow

what steps are you talking about? how to increase the thickness?

Joyana ,firstly I assume you know the answers to these questions.
1.What is a thermocouple?
2.What is the thermometric property of a thermocouple in other words what changes as the temperature changes?
3.How are thermocouples set up and used and how is the thermometric property measured?
4.What is meant by "calibrating a thermocouple system"?
If you don't know the answers then do some research. If you get stuck on anything then report back here showing that you have made an attempt at a solution.
