SUMMARY

Admission to a good PhD program in the UK or Switzerland without a master's degree is challenging but not impossible. A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement, and while promoting skills through platforms like YouTube or a personal website can enhance a digital resume, it is unlikely to substitute for formal academic qualifications. The consensus in the discussion indicates that without a master's degree, candidates may face significant hurdles in gaining acceptance into elite universities. Ultimately, pursuing a master's degree remains the most reliable pathway to a PhD program.

PREREQUISITES
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Understanding of academic admission processes
  • Familiarity with digital portfolio creation
  • Knowledge of PhD program requirements in Europe
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specific PhD admission criteria for universities in the UK and Switzerland
  • Explore strategies for building an effective digital portfolio
  • Investigate alternative pathways to PhD programs, such as research assistant positions
  • Learn about funding opportunities for PhD candidates without a master's degree
USEFUL FOR

Prospective PhD candidates, particularly those with a bachelor's degree seeking alternative admission routes, and individuals interested in leveraging digital skills for academic advancement.

Hi

I have to combine studies with work. However, due to illness, it seems like I may not be able to finish a normal masters degree (my body reacts really badly to the two-three weeks of exam season while working). While my health is improving, I am also becoming impatient.

How hard is it to get into a good university in the UK or Switzerland without a masters degree? Let's say I decide to promote my skills through YouTube videos or a website... I know this can get you work in the business market, but how about academia?

My health is improving, but I am not sure how long it is going to take. I do have a bachelors degree, but not a masters degree. Will having a digital resume help me get into a good PhD program? Will I have to finish a Masters degree before doing a PhD or is it possible to create a digital resume good enough to get into, let's say, an elite university?

Honestly, I would say that what you suggest is essentially impossible. I cannot suggest that you try this as it will most likely just lead to missed time spent and disappointment.
