Can I get into geology with a major in physics

AI Thread Summary
Pursuing a career in geology without a dedicated program can still be feasible. A major in physics, combined with a minor in geography, may provide a solid foundation for entering the geology field or advancing to graduate studies in geophysics. Additionally, students interested in meteorology and geology can explore postgraduate options after completing a Bachelor of Science in Physics, as there are job opportunities available in both fields. Engaging in relevant elective courses and seeking interdisciplinary studies can enhance qualifications for a successful career in geology or related areas.

I want to get a career in geology but the school I am going to doesn't offer that. I am going because it is close to home and I am playing sports there. Can I get into geology with a major in physics or should I think of another career choice?

To the OP:

Does the school you are going to offer a program in geography, with elective courses in physical geography? If so, then I would think that a major in physics with a minor in geography should be able to give you enough background to pursue a career in geology, or quality you for further graduate studies in geophysics.

Even I face the same issue. Right now I am doing B.Sc phy .. but I am highly interested in meteorology and geology. So I wanted to do pg in either of them.. can I get a degree? And what are the job opportunities?

I don't know if anyone on here works for any of the well known defense companies of your country, whichever country you are from?? Also, if you choose to work in one, do you think the engineering education provide from your school would adequately prepare you for the job. What do I mean by that? Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
