SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the interaction between magnets and motors, specifically how magnets can influence the operation of a motor-driven axle. It confirms that magnets on a motor can drive another axle in a manner similar to a polyphase motor, where salient poles on synchronous motor armatures phase-lock with the rotating magnetic field from the stator. However, participants caution against this approach due to potential efficiency losses, suggesting that direct gearing of a motor to an axle is a more effective solution.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of polyphase motor design
  • Knowledge of synchronous motor operation
  • Familiarity with magnetic field interactions
  • Basic principles of mechanical gearing systems
NEXT STEPS
  • Research AC motor design principles
  • Explore the efficiency of direct motor-to-axle gearing
  • Study the effects of magnetic field interactions in motor systems
  • Investigate salient pole configurations in synchronous motors
USEFUL FOR

Engineers, hobbyists, and students interested in electromagnetism, motor design, and mechanical systems optimization.

What would happen if you were two create something like in the photo.

Lets just say that the magnets on the right are on the axle that's connected with motor. While the other magnets to right are on an axle. Would the magnets on the motor drive the other one?

Yes, in the same way that in a polyphase motor, salient poles on synchronous motor armatures phase-lock with the rotating magnetic field from the stator. Read up on ac motor design.

They could, but for what purpose? You will have various losses in the system. It would be more efficient to gear a motor directly to an axle.
