Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the possibility of using magnets to harness gravity, exploring the relationship between magnetic forces and gravitational effects. Participants express various thoughts on the feasibility and implications of such technology.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions the possibility of harnessing gravity with magnets, suggesting a broad inquiry into the topic.
  • Another participant seeks clarification on the initial question, indicating the need for more specific thoughts.
  • A participant proposes that if magnets can attract ferrous metals, it might be conceivable to attract other objects, hinting at a broader application.
  • In response, a participant notes that while magnets attract ferrous metals, there is no clear connection to gravity.
  • Another participant speculates about the potential for future technology to achieve such a feat, although this remains hypothetical.
  • A later reply emphasizes the lack of current technology to harness gravity with magnets and suggests that without understanding how such technology would work, discussions may lead to random guesses.
  • The same reply also highlights that the forum's mission is to focus on current scientific understanding rather than speculation about future technologies.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the feasibility of using magnets to harness gravity, and the discussion remains unresolved with multiple competing views presented.

Contextual Notes

The discussion is limited by the lack of current scientific basis for the proposed technology and the speculative nature of the claims made by participants.

Is it possible to harness gravity with a magnet?

Physics news on Phys.org
That's a pretty broad question. What are your thoughts on it?

well i mean you know how magnets attract each other would it be possible to not only use a magnet on iron but be able to attract more objects other than that.

Well, magnets attract ferrous metals, not just iron, but there's no apparent connection to gravity.

i know but like if humans had the technology to make such a thing.

But there is no such technology, and without knowing how such technology would work we can do little better than make random guesses.
In addition, PF's mission is to teach people about current science, not to speculate on future technology that has no basis in current science.
If you'd like to learn about current science, please feel free to stick around, but I'm afraid this thread will have to remain locked.
