SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the concept of the "centre of charge," which refers to the point where a charge Q must be located to produce an electric effect equivalent to a given configuration of charges. It is established that the centre of charge can only be defined for finite systems, as attempting to apply this concept to an infinite distribution of charges is invalid. This is analogous to the midpoint of a line, which only exists for finite line segments.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electrostatics and charge distributions
  • Familiarity with the concept of centre of mass
  • Knowledge of finite versus infinite systems in physics
  • Basic principles of electric fields and forces
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the mathematical formulation of centre of charge for finite charge distributions
  • Explore the relationship between centre of charge and centre of mass
  • Study the implications of infinite charge distributions in electrostatics
  • Learn about electric field calculations for various charge configurations
USEFUL FOR

Students of physics, educators teaching electrostatics, and researchers exploring charge distributions and their effects in electric fields.

What is a centre of charge?
How can i take a centre of chrage for infinite number of charges distributed in a linear manner?

centre of charge means the point at which the charge Q must be present so as to give a electric effect equivalent to the original configuration of the system of the charge Q.

your second question is invalid question because propertie like centre of charge, centre of mass can only be defined for finite systems, not for infinite system.

your second question was analogous to ask midpoint of a line...as midpoint for a line doesnot exist...midpoint is defined only for a line-segment(finite length).
