AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around the concept of PDF expiration, specifically whether a PDF can become permanently inaccessible after a certain date. The original inquiry seeks clarification on how to determine if a PDF has an expiration mechanism. One response suggests that the term "expire" could refer to making a PDF read-only or implementing a self-destruct feature that renders the document unreadable after a specific date. For those interested in creating such features, resources are available, including forums and guides on Acrobat that discuss methods for implementing self-destructing PDFs.

What do you mean 'expires'?

by "expire" i mean permanently close so that one is unable to open it. i thought there was a way to govern this and i was wondering how to check if one such government was in place.

maybe there is, never heard of or come across a pdf I couldn't open many of them years old,
maybe they didnt have this timelock you speak of ?
interested to see what responses others offer

By 'expire', do you mean making the .pdf document read only, so that one can view the contents but not make any modifications? Or are you thinking that you can install a 'time bomb' in the document, so that after the trigger date, the file erases itself or otherwise renders itself unreadable by anyone?

If the latter, you might read this Acrobat User's forum thread:

You can also google 'Acrobat file self destruct' for other methods and discussions.

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
This week, I saw a documentary done by the French called Les sacrifiés de l'IA, which was presented by a Canadian show Enquête. If you understand French I recommend it. Very eye-opening. I found a similar documentary in English called The Human Cost of AI: Data workers in the Global South. There is also an interview with Milagros Miceli (appearing in both documentaries) on Youtube: I also found a powerpoint presentation by the economist Uma Rani (appearing in the French documentary), AI...
