Chemical reaction with both O2 and CO2 released as products?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Chemical reactions that release both oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) as products are rare but can occur under specific conditions. One example mentioned is the use of oxygen candles, which generate O2, combined with charcoal, which produces CO2 when combusted. Additionally, reactions involving organic matter can also yield both gases, particularly in combustion processes. Understanding these reactions is crucial for applications in emergency oxygen supplies and environmental studies.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic knowledge of chemical reactions and stoichiometry
  • Familiarity with combustion processes
  • Understanding of gas laws and behavior
  • Knowledge of organic chemistry principles
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the chemical composition and reactions of oxygen candles
  • Study the combustion of hydrocarbons and its byproducts
  • Explore the principles of gas laws in relation to reaction products
  • Investigate the role of organic matter in gas production during combustion
USEFUL FOR

Chemists, environmental scientists, and students studying chemical reactions, particularly those interested in gas production and combustion processes.

Is anyone familiar with any chemical reactions that release both oxygen and carbon dioxide gas as products?

Or any reactions where oxygen and carbon dioxide are both reactants?

Thanks.

There are a few reactions that generate oxygen, they are called oxygen candles and are used as emergency oxygen supplies. I suppose one of those + some charcoal would also give you CO2
