AI Thread Summary
Recent developments indicate that Chinese authorities have detained Liu Xia, the wife of Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo, and terminated her phone number, raising concerns about censorship and human rights violations in China. Despite global scrutiny, the Chinese government appears unperturbed by international criticism, suggesting a lack of concern for its global image. The discussion highlights the challenges of imposing effective sanctions on China due to the significant economic dependence many countries have on it, indicating a complex geopolitical situation where moral outrage may not translate into actionable change.

If China cared what they looked like they would have changed many things a long time ago. I doubt any change will come from this, China is not sweating it.

Yeah, this is sadly true. The worst part is that we cannot place any real sanctions against them because we are so dependent upon them.

Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
