Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around collecting and studying input files for the Monte Carlo Universal (MCU) code, particularly in various settings such as reactors and experiments. Participants share their experiences and seek specific examples of MCU input files.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses interest in MCU-5 and seeks diverse input files for various applications, indicating a desire to learn from others' experiences.
  • Another participant recommends the book "Radiation Problems: From Analytical to Monte Carlo Solutions," suggesting it contains valuable examples, though they are unsure about sharing the book in PDF format.
  • A later reply questions the relevance of the recommended book, noting that it primarily contains MCNP code, which differs from MCU input files that use a distinct configuration language.
  • There is a concern about the legality of uploading copyrighted materials, emphasizing the need for moderation in sharing resources.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the relevance of the recommended book to MCU input files, indicating a disagreement on the applicability of the resource.

Contextual Notes

There is uncertainty regarding the specific content of the recommended book and its applicability to MCU, as well as the legality of sharing copyrighted materials.

TL;DR
Hi everyone! I have been learning MCU (Monte Carlo Universal), a Russian version of MCNP and am collecting input files to learn off of. The more complex the better. Or if anyone knows of a library of input files sitting around somewhere I'd love to know about it. Thank you!
I am working with MCU-5, and would love to study input files for diverse settings. Whether for reactors, experiments, or novel uses. It is all interesting to me. I am also open to hearing about your own experience with MCU and the times you feel you've extracted value from it.

Hi DAntanov.

The book "Radiation Problems: From Analytical to Monte Carlo Solutions" has many examples, from the simplest to the most complex. I recommend reading it, you can learn a lot. I don't know if I can upload books in PDF format here, but if a moderator allows it, I can upload them.

Thank you for the recommendation. However it seems that this book only contains MCNP code (am I wrong?). MCU input files, while having similar proper/function, are a different configuration/domain-specific language. I am looking for MCU input files specifically.

Not if it's a copyrighted work; that would be illegal and not allowed here. Thanks for asking.
