SUMMARY

The discussion centers on selecting a physics-heavy capstone project involving carbon fiber for an undergraduate program. Participants emphasize the importance of consulting with a school coordinator and a faculty mentor to refine project ideas based on individual skills, resources, and time constraints. The need for a project that can sustain interest and depth over an entire semester is highlighted as a critical factor in the selection process.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of carbon fiber materials and their properties
  • Familiarity with physics concepts relevant to material science
  • Project management skills for semester-long research
  • Ability to consult and collaborate with faculty mentors
NEXT STEPS
  • Research potential applications of carbon fiber in engineering projects
  • Explore physics experiments related to material strength and elasticity
  • Investigate existing capstone projects in physics for inspiration
  • Learn about project proposal writing and presentation techniques
USEFUL FOR

Undergraduate physics students, aspiring engineers, and anyone involved in capstone project planning who seeks to integrate advanced materials like carbon fiber into their research.

I am required to complete a semester-long capstone project for my undergrad. I'd like to do something involving carbon fiber. Was just looking for some possible ideas. The difficulty is finding a project that is physics heavy and can last an entire semester. Thanks

You need to flesh out the requirements I think...

Usually, the coordinator at your school can provide some guidelines, and a faculty mentor at your school will help you mold your rough ideas into something attainable given your skills, the available resources, and the available time.

Lots of folks here have experience with capstone projects, but we have no insight into the requirements at your school or the available resources.
