Comsol Help -- How to Enable Rotating?

SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on enabling rotation in Comsol Multiphysics by filling the volume between two spheres with fluid. Users can achieve this by utilizing a 2D-axisymmetric geometry and configuring the inner sphere's surface as a sliding wall with a specified φ angular velocity. The example "Swirl Flow Around a Rotating Disc" from the Application Library serves as a practical reference for implementing this setup. This method effectively demonstrates fluid dynamics in a rotating system.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with Comsol Multiphysics software
  • Understanding of 2D-axisymmetric geometry modeling
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics principles
  • Experience with setting boundary conditions in simulations
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the "Swirl Flow Around a Rotating Disc" example in Comsol Application Library
  • Learn how to set up boundary conditions for sliding walls in Comsol
  • Research fluid dynamics simulations in rotating systems
  • Investigate advanced features of Comsol for multi-physics simulations
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for engineers, researchers, and students working with Comsol Multiphysics, particularly those interested in fluid dynamics and rotational systems.

Hi,
I'm a newbie at Comsol and want ask for guide how to fill something with fluid and make sphere rotate. My goal in creating system where one sphere contains second. Second sphere rotates on its axis. Volume between is filled with fluid.
I understand how to create spheres, but couldn't understand how to fill volume between them and make inner sphere rotate.

You can do this using a 2D-axisymmetric geometry, then setting the surface of the rotating sphere as a sliding wall with a given φ angular velocity.

As an exemple, you can look at Swirl Flow Around a Rotating Disc in the Application Library.
