SUMMARY

The discussion centers on converting 8.2 x 1019 picometers (pm) to miles. Participants clarify that "pm" refers to picometers, a unit of length. The conversion process involves multiplying by 10-12 to convert picometers to meters and then dividing by 1609 to convert meters to miles. The final result of the conversion is 5.4 x 109 miles.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of unit conversion, specifically between metric and imperial systems.
  • Familiarity with scientific notation and exponent rules.
  • Basic knowledge of distance measurements, including picometers and miles.
  • Ability to use LaTeX for formatting mathematical equations.
NEXT STEPS
  • Learn about converting between metric units and imperial units in detail.
  • Study scientific notation and its applications in calculations.
  • Explore the use of LaTeX for presenting mathematical equations clearly.
  • Research the significance of picometers in scientific contexts.

Not clear to me either. What's a "pm"? Some distance measurement?

Also, if you click the Sigma symbol in the Advanced Reply menu, you can put your equations into LaTeX to make them clearer. Like:

D = 8.2 * 10^{19}

I believe that "pm" would stand for "picometers". The op can correct me if I am wrong.
