SUMMARY

Les is working on a university project to create a linear dynamo after abandoning the use of piezoelectric materials due to cost concerns. The discussion suggests that Les may be referring to a linear motor, similar to those used in maglev trains. Participants recommend researching maglev technology as a foundational step for understanding linear dynamo applications and designs.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of linear motors and their applications
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic principles
  • Knowledge of maglev train technology
  • Basic skills in electrical engineering design
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of linear motors and their construction
  • Study the design and operation of maglev trains
  • Explore alternative materials for energy generation
  • Investigate existing linear dynamo prototypes and their specifications
USEFUL FOR

Students in engineering fields, electrical engineers, and hobbyists interested in renewable energy technologies and linear motor applications.

Hi,

I am currently working on a project for university,

The initial idea I had was to use piezoelectric materials but it is too expensive, so I am going to try and change the way the system works, but in order to do it, I need to create a linear dynamo,

Could anyone tell me if it is possible and if so give me a starting point?

Thank you in advance,

Les

Perhaps you could tell us what you want the linear dynamo to do. Do you mean a linear motor like a maglev train? If so, I would suggest you read up on the maglev train.
