SUMMARY

High school students with university credits in math and engineering must understand how these credits transfer to colleges. Generally, transferred credits fulfill degree requirements but do not impact the college GPA, as only courses taken at the institution contribute to it. However, all grades from previous institutions will be visible on transcripts when applying for graduate school, which can influence admissions decisions. Therefore, students should be aware of both credit transfer policies and GPA calculations when planning their educational paths.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of college credit transfer policies
  • Familiarity with GPA calculation methods
  • Knowledge of transcript requirements for graduate school applications
  • Basic awareness of high school and university course equivalencies
NEXT STEPS
  • Research specific credit transfer policies at prospective colleges
  • Learn about GPA calculation methods at different universities
  • Investigate transcript requirements for graduate school applications
  • Explore how to evaluate course equivalencies between high school and university
USEFUL FOR

High school students planning to transfer university credits, academic advisors, and parents navigating college admissions processes.

I'm currently a high school student, but have several credits from a local university, mostly for math and some from engineering. If I want these credits to transfer to where ever I end up going to college, does the credit alone transfer (by which I mean does it simply count towards fulfilling requirements), or will the grades from these classes end up actually factoring into my college GPA?

Generally, your GPA at a particular college/university includes only courses that you take at that institution. If you later apply for graduate school, they will generally want you to submit transcripts from all the colleges/universities that you have attended, so they will see all your grades in any event.

Thanks for the reply :).
