Crystal Radio Basics & Components Explained

Can someone please tell me the basics to how a cystal radio works? And also what are all the components that makes up a crystal radio? Thank you!

I'm sure that Mr Google will be able to help with any and every detail you seek. But if there remain some unanswered questions, post them and we'll examine them.

A crystal set doesn't need a battery, it is totally powered by the tiny microvolts of electricity picked up by your piece of wire aerial sitting in the electromagnetic field generated by a distant radio transmitting tower.
