SUMMARY

The discussion proposes the idea of constructing a wide trench filled with water instead of building a wall for economic reasons. This trench would connect to the ocean, allowing water to flow in during high tides and out during low tides. The concept aims to explore alternative methods for managing water flow and barriers. Additionally, the forum has implemented new guidelines prohibiting political topics as thread starters, focusing instead on specific news events.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of hydraulic engineering principles
  • Knowledge of tidal dynamics and their effects on water flow
  • Familiarity with coastal management strategies
  • Basic concepts of environmental impact assessments
NEXT STEPS
  • Research hydraulic engineering techniques for trench design
  • Study tidal dynamics and their implications for coastal structures
  • Explore environmental impact assessments related to water management
  • Investigate alternative coastal protection methods beyond traditional walls
USEFUL FOR

Engineers, environmental scientists, urban planners, and anyone interested in innovative water management solutions.

Might sound really stupid, but will it be more economical if instead of wall, a WIDE trench filled with water from adjoining ocean and river is allowed to flow in.

With both the ends of the trench connected to the ocean, we can allow water to flow in during high tides, and flown out during low tides.

Effective immediately, in General Discussion, the topic of politics as a thread starter has been banned. Political points/discussion may be used within threads but a thread may not have a political origin.

Threads in Current News Events forum may have political origin, but within the framework of a specific news event. We no longer will entertain opinion pieces and open ended thoughts with no story attached. Here are the revised guidelines: https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/must-read-current-events-guidelines.113181/

All threads dated 4-3-16 and earlier are exempt.
