Estimate the average force exerted by a shot-putter

  1. Sep 27, 2009 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data

    Estimate the average force exerted by a shot-putter on a 7.5 kg shot if the shot is moved through a distance of 3.0 m and is released with a speed of 11 m/s.

    2. Relevant equations

    F=ma
    using cos and sin?

    3. The attempt at a solution

    not sure how to begin

    Use the kinematics equations to find the acceleration first.

    An equivalent approach would be to use work and energy, and the work-energy theorem, and I think it might save the TS some grunt-work with the kinematic equations.
