SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on recommended books for undergraduate-level studies in elementary particle physics and special relativity. Participants suggest "Particle Physics" by Martin and Shaw as a suitable introductory text that is less advanced than Griffiths. For a comparable level to Griffiths, "Modern Particle Physics" by Thomson is recommended, along with his 2011 lecture slides available online. These resources provide foundational knowledge for students new to these complex topics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of undergraduate-level physics concepts
  • Familiarity with introductory particle physics terminology
  • Knowledge of special relativity principles
  • Access to academic resources for further reading
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore "Particle Physics" by Martin and Shaw for foundational concepts
  • Study "Modern Particle Physics" by Thomson for advanced understanding
  • Review Thomson's 2011 lecture slides for supplementary learning
  • Research additional introductory texts on special relativity
USEFUL FOR

Undergraduate physics students, educators seeking teaching materials, and anyone interested in foundational texts on elementary particle physics and special relativity.

For particle physics, at a lower level than Griffiths, I like "Particle Physics" by Martin and Shaw. At about the same level as Griffiths, I really like "Modern Particle Physics" by Thomson. Thomson has a made an excellent set of 2011 lecture slides available at
