First 36-Hour Hackathon: Seeking Open Domain Ideas for Societal Impact

guys its my first 36 hr hackathon so i need a idea accordingly so please send me a idea in open domain which is useful ofr society

If you are under 18 (though I doubt it, looking at the poster), and like hackathons, I suggest you also join Hack club! They run a lot of events all across India, and you could even join the organising team. I'm on the team for my local area. What part of India are you from? I have friends/relatives who are organisers in the North so I can get you an organising status potentially if you'd like.

Never mind - it's only for under 18s. By organising status I just meant that you could join the team of people who organise hackathons for hack club in that area.

I can't give you any guarantees for things that'll get shortlisted, because I'm not a judge, not to mention I've never run a 36 hour hackathon (only 12 hour ones), but here are some of the projects which we've had over the years that have really caught my eye:

• One team I've seen before trained an AI bot to recognise facial expressions, and then rates your happiness
• Collection of basic physics simulations (e.g. pendulum, double pendulum (less basic but still), mass on a spring)
• Autocorrecter that purposely corrects words to something rude, and makes sentences that insults you (though this is obviously not very useful)
• A computer that explodes when you make a syntax error (god knows how they debugged/tested it)
• Smart Recipe generator - takes in some ingredients and spits out a recipe for a meal you could make
• A really gameified anki addon - I don't know if you've heard of anki but it's essentially a flashcards app and you can code addons to add to it via python modules. In this case, they turned reviewing flashcards into a full blown game.
• Annoying scheduler - sets the most annoying alarms to wake you up in the morning (and requires proof you've woken up in order to stop) - only lets you access social media once you've proven with a picture that you've finished certain tasks/goals for that day (e.g. going outside for a walk, finished maths homework)

If you'd like some more ideas, do tell me! But do remember that the fun of a hackathon is making something novel and new, so don't just use ideas off the internet - try and make something creative and fun, even if it's not that useful - that's what people like!

It might be wise to keep in mind that the forum is in the USA and most participants are in the USA, so if you are going you use abbreviations from India, best you spell them out on this forum.

True. The only reason I knew what it abbreviated to is because my parents are Indian so I am familiar with such shortenings.
Also - another thing about the hackathon - do they require you to bring your own hardware or are they providing it, @geekynerd ?
