Are there any truly free video files converter out there?
I have seen many that give you a trial version but for the full version you must pay.
I am trying to convert MOD files from my camcorder to something I can watch on WMP.

I have found two free converters very useful. They are called "Any Video Converter" and "Format Factory". They can be obtain via CNET.

Your camcorder should have come with some sort of software to make an AVI file. Windows Movie Maker can then convert the AVI file to a WMV file.

Yes Jeff you are right software did come with the camera. When I bought this camera I was using XP and everything worked fine but I later got a new computer that runs vista. The software will not run on vista and JVC does offer any software for this camera that does run on vista. My JVC camera records MOD files that I need to turn into files that run on WMP.

Hard drives are cheap, and you could make a dual boot system. Plus with a second operating system on a different hard drive (or partition), you can use each OS to back up the partition of the other OS, as well as any other partitions you have.

One good website for video related stuff is doom9.net, although the url is really .org:

Thanks for the help from everyone. The “Any Video Converter” software is just what I was looking for. It works great and is free.

I might be a little late to the show, but I have tried a few and have found SUPER to be the best.

I'm not sure why, but they make their actual download link incredibly hard to find on their website. The link is at the bottom of that page though. I have used it for years and the flexibility and power is unmatched IMHO.
