SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the functions and features of oscilloscopes, specifically addressing user inquiries about various controls and ports. Key terms such as "TRIG LEVEL," "COUPLING," "HOLD OFF," "X-Y," "VAR SWEEP," "EXT TRIG," "CAL," and "GND" are highlighted as essential components of oscilloscope operation. A recommendation to consult the Wikipedia article on oscilloscopes is provided as a primary resource for further understanding. The discussion emphasizes the importance of these features for effective signal analysis.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of electronic signal analysis
  • Familiarity with oscilloscope controls and settings
  • Knowledge of signal triggering mechanisms
  • Awareness of waveform visualization techniques
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the function of "TRIG LEVEL" and its impact on signal stability
  • Explore the differences between "LINE" and "EXT" source settings
  • Learn about the "X-Y" mode for plotting signals
  • Investigate the purpose of "VAR SWEEP" in waveform display
USEFUL FOR

Electronics students, engineers, and technicians who require a deeper understanding of oscilloscope functionalities for signal measurement and analysis.

hello everyone,

i was able to get a snap of a oscilloscope. please help me know it's functions.

1:- at the top what do "TRIG LEVEL" and "COUPLING" mean?

2:- on the SOURCE switch what do "LINE" and "EXT" mean?

3:- "HOLD OFF" is used to stabalize the signal?

4:- what does "X-Y" button do?

5:- what is function "VAR SWEEP"?

6:- on left side bottom what does "EXT TRIG" port do?

7:- what do "CAL" and "GND" do on right side at bottom?

i am much graful if you can provide me help. many thanks for any help you can provide me.

cheers

The wikipedia article should answer most of your questions. If you have further questions after reading the article, please post them here.

okay. i will try to read this article. will ask you for help.

cheers.

Most likely this can only be answered by an "old timer". I am making measurements on an uA709 op amp (metal can). I would like to calculate the frequency rolloff curves (I can measure them). I assume the compensation is via the miller effect. To do the calculations I would need to know the gain of the transistors and the effective resistance seen at the compensation terminals, not including the values I put there. Anyone know those values?
