SUMMARY

When applying to PhD programs, a CV is mandatory; however, a cover letter is not required. The consensus among forum participants is that the statement of purpose sufficiently addresses the necessary information that a cover letter would typically provide. Therefore, applicants can focus on crafting a strong statement of purpose instead of a separate cover letter.
