MHB Graphically solving 2X2 linear system and finding the line through 2 points

Click For Summary
The discussion focuses on solving a system of linear equations graphically and finding the equation of a line through two points. The user solved the equations y = -4x + 2 and x - 2y = 10, arriving at the solution x = 1.55 and y = -4.22, which was confirmed as correct. Additionally, the user found the equation of the line passing through the points (4, -2) and (0, 6) as y = -2x + 6, which was also validated as correct. The thread highlights the importance of peer verification in solving mathematical problems.

Basically I don't know anyone in real life that can help me with this, so I need help checking to see if my answers are correct :)

PART A
1) Using a graphing utility solve the following system of linear equations. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

y = -4x+2
x - 2y = 10

My answer: x = 1.55 y = -4.22

2) Find the equation of the line that passes through the points (4,-2) and (0,6)

My answer: y = -2x + 6

Thank you!

Here is a little puzzle from the book 100 Geometric Games by Pierre Berloquin. The side of a small square is one meter long and the side of a larger square one and a half meters long. One vertex of the large square is at the center of the small square. The side of the large square cuts two sides of the small square into one- third parts and two-thirds parts. What is the area where the squares overlap?
