Help Needed: Device to Lift 180lbs 30cm Off Ground

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around finding a device or method to lift 180lbs approximately 30cm off the ground. Participants explore various potential solutions, considering factors such as size and power requirements.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests that a lever would be the simplest solution for lifting the weight.
  • Another participant humorously proposes using dynamite, noting that it may not be appropriate to discuss such methods.
  • A third participant mentions that water could lift the weight if it is buoyant, and also references a block and tackle as a traditional lifting method, though it may not meet the size requirement.
  • Airbags are mentioned as a potential lifting method, but concerns about stability at 30cm are raised.
  • Some participants jokingly suggest that hiring a strong friend could be a practical solution.
  • A participant inquires about the context of the original question, asking if it pertains to a school project or a specific application.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present multiple competing views on how to lift the weight, with no consensus reached on a single solution. The discussion remains open-ended with various suggestions and humorous exchanges.

Contextual Notes

Some suggestions may depend on specific conditions, such as the buoyancy of the weight or the context of use, which are not fully clarified in the discussion.

Hey, I am new to this stuff and was just wondering if someone could help me i need to know what could i use to lift 180lbs about thirty centimetres off the ground, also this device has to be small but still powerful enough to lift the required weight i would appreciate any help i could get.

Thanks

A lever would be simplest.

If it doesn't have to stay up for any significant length of time, or come back in one piece, dynamite would work. I'm not supposed to talk about that kind of stuff here, though.

water if the weight is buoyant or made to be. block and tackle is an old standby for lifting objects but may not meet the small requirement. guess a hot air balloon is also out. air bags can lift items but 30cm could be tipsy. $5 to a strong friend could lift it too.

Welcome to the PF.

What is the context of your question? What is the application? Is this a school project?
