Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around calculating the charge of an atom, specifically focusing on the stable isotope of chromium, 52Cr24. The original poster expresses confusion regarding the charge calculation and its implications.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • The original poster attempts to calculate the charge based on the number of protons, questioning the result as it pertains to the nucleus. Other participants discuss the relationship between protons and electrons, raising questions about atomic neutrality and whether this principle applies universally.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing, with participants exploring the concept of atomic charge and neutrality. Some guidance has been offered regarding the relationship between protons and electrons, but there is no explicit consensus on the implications for all atoms.

Contextual Notes

There is a focus on understanding the charge of an atom in the context of a specific isotope, and participants are questioning the assumptions about atomic structure and charge neutrality.

does that mean its neutral? and does this apply for ALL atoms?!

Yes.

oh !
thanks for you help!
