Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around building a mousetrap car for a racing project in physics. Participants seek guidance on the design and construction of the car, as well as clarification on the rules and objectives of the race.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related
  • Exploratory

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a need for help in developing a mousetrap car, indicating a lack of understanding of the project.
  • Another participant suggests that the goal may be to minimize time, while a different viewpoint proposes that it could involve maximizing distance.
  • A participant asks for clarification on the rules and materials allowed for constructing the car.
  • Specific rules are provided, stating that the chassis, wheels, and axles can be made from any non-dangerous materials, and only a mousetrap can be used as a power source.
  • Participants discuss the importance of using lightweight materials for the car's construction.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There is no consensus on whether the objective of the race is to achieve the least time or the longest distance, indicating a disagreement among participants. The rules of the race are clarified, but further details on the construction process remain open for discussion.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not fully explored the implications of the rules regarding materials and design, and there may be additional constraints not yet discussed.

Help on Mousetrap Car !

Hello, good afternoon.
I would ask you for the help of my work in physics.
As you well understand, I'm not North American and my English is very bad.
I am Brazilian and I ask the help of you using the Google translator. :blushing:

Well, as I was talking to you, I have to develop a MouseTrap Car.
And I have no idea of how to begin making such a car.
I have to mount a racing car, where the most time wins.

I would you please help me to develop this project, because we do not understand anything about this.

I hope that with the help of you I can mount an optimal car, and can learn the subject.Do not hesitate to give aid ...
Good afternoon again, and thank you very much.

Hello azimovas! Welcome to PF!

(I assume you mean the least time wins?)

I've never tried to make a mousetrap car, but google will give you plenty of sites, for example:

Not necessarily. He might mean which vehicle runs the longest. There are several different factors that could be used as a goal.
Nice link.

Thank you guys !
I mean, i'll win that.

Let us know how you get on!

What are the rules?
Are you limited to a specific set of "ingredients" to use for the car?

The most important rules are:
Chassis, the wheels and axles of the car can be made of any material provided they are not considered dangerous.
You can only use a trap.

The track is 80 cm wide and 3 meters in distance. Those who finish the first track, without leaving it wins.

I believe that the material must be well light.
The wheels we should build, I mean, we can not get something done.

Ty Guys
