How can a recent graduate get into the Solar Industry?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Recent graduates seeking to enter the solar industry, specifically companies like FirstSolar and NanoSolar, face challenges due to high experience requirements. Mechanical engineering graduates with corporate engineering experience can leverage their skills by targeting entry-level positions or companies that value potential over years of experience. Networking and showcasing a passion for solar energy can significantly enhance job prospects. Companies often reconsider candidates with less experience if they cannot find qualified applicants.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of solar energy technologies and applications
  • Familiarity with engineering principles relevant to the solar industry
  • Networking skills to connect with industry professionals
  • Knowledge of job application strategies for engineering roles
NEXT STEPS
  • Research entry-level positions in solar energy companies
  • Learn about solar energy systems and their engineering requirements
  • Develop networking strategies to connect with professionals in the solar industry
  • Explore internships or volunteer opportunities in renewable energy sectors

I am a mechanical engineering B.S. graduate 3 years corporate engineering experience. I've developed a passion for solar energy over the past year. However, jobs are short for early-life engineers like me. How do I get started as an engineer in a company like FirstSolar and NanoSolar? They are all asking for 10+ years experience.

Start with someone who doesn't require 10+ years of experience...?

Or, get 10+ years of experience in the job you have now and then apply!

(Any company that asks for "n+ years of experience" will certainly consider a person with less experience if they can't get a person with that experience.)
