Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the method of connecting two single-pole, single-throw (S.P.S.T) switches to a single hot wire, specifically whether this method is referred to as "pig tail" wiring. Participants explore the implications of splitting power from one hot wire to two switches.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants describe connecting a single hot wire to a wire nut and then splitting it into two wires to power two switches simultaneously.
  • There is a question about whether this method is correctly termed "pig tail" wiring.
  • One participant expresses hesitation in providing guidance on hot wiring without knowing the background of the person asking.
  • A participant identifies themselves as a P.C. Repair Tech with some background in electrical studies, indicating familiarity with the topic.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the terminology used for the wiring method, and there is uncertainty regarding the implications of the approach discussed.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations regarding the clarity of the wiring method, as no schematic or visual representation is provided, and the background knowledge of participants varies.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in electrical wiring techniques, particularly those exploring methods for connecting multiple switches to a single power source.

If I have two S.P.S.T Switches and I have one Hot Wire but I want both Switches to get power at the same time I can do this.

I take my one Hot Wire and put a Wire Nut on it then connect two Wires to that same Wire Nut.

Is this called a Pig Tail?
Thanks

Can you post a schematic sketch?

No I have no Drawling or Snapshot.

I just ment if you take One Hot Black Wire and put it into a Wire Nut and then have two Wire coming out of that same Wire Nut it will split the Current.

And Both Wires coming out of the Wire Nut will have Power.

I thought this is a pig tail?

At least for me, "pig tail wiring" just means a tap-off piece of wire, so yes. But I hesitate to answer questions about Hot wiring without knowing more about the background and qualifications of the poster. Have you worked with AC Mains wiring a lot previously? Most EEs actually have not...

I am a P.C. Repair Tech and yes I have background study in Electric and all that.

Here is the video I was watching about Pig Tail Wire for giving Power to two Switches
