SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the design of a steam power plant with a load of 74,000 KW. Key steps include assuming pressures from P2 to P8, with P2 set at 8 MPa, and ensuring that enthalpy values do not exceed saturation lines. The extraction percentage must remain below 25%, and the user is facing challenges with negative losses and high output percentages exceeding 30% in calculations related to Qbd, Qref, and Qfluegas. The conversation highlights the importance of using MS Excel for calculations and data management.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of steam power plant thermodynamics
  • Proficiency in MS Excel for data analysis
  • Knowledge of enthalpy and saturation lines in steam cycles
  • Familiarity with pressure and temperature relationships in steam systems
NEXT STEPS
  • Research steam cycle efficiency optimization techniques
  • Learn about enthalpy calculations in steam power plants
  • Explore methods for minimizing losses in thermal systems
  • Investigate the implications of extraction percentages on overall efficiency
USEFUL FOR

Engineering students, thermal system designers, and professionals involved in optimizing steam power plant efficiency.

Hi professionals, I am a student from philippines and
im about to design a steam power plant with 74000 KW load.
Our professor gave us a 3 steps at first chapter

the first is that we assume the pressures needed from P2 to P8 where P2 = 8 MPa
assume T2 at centigrade, and get the enthalpies up to P8
T2 must be greater than t5, and h5 = h4' + 150
h7' must not go beyond saturation line
h8' must not go above saturation line

look at my MS excel for more infos.

second is we must get the percent extraction of <25% by getting h9 to h15

look at my MS excel for more infos.

3rd checking (look at my MS excel for more infos.)

my problem now is the 3rd checking. I am getting negative losses, low % output, I am exceeding 30% at Qbd,Qref,Qfluegas.
