Hi Newt18, :)

Welcome to MHB!

What have you tried? Since you are given that 5 UK quarts are equal to 6 US quarts what can you say about 1 UK quart?

Well I inferred that 1 UK quart must be something closer to 2 US quarts. But the inference was not correct.

If it were near 2 US quarts then you'd expect 5 UK quarts to be about 9 US quarts.

We are told that 5 UK quarts is near 6 US ones so it follows that a US quart is smaller than a UK one - that means we can eliminate any answer which is less than 1.

Do you know a way to change 5 UK quarts into 1 UK quart?

I understand that you can get the answer by trying all options. But I am not finding it through actually working it out.

I would begin with:

$$5\text{ UK quarts}\approx6\text{ US quarts}$$

Now, what should you do so that you have 1 UK quart on the left side?

Thanks. I really didn't see the need for Algebra in this problem up until now.
