How do I create a liquid that generates constant UV light ?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the creation of a liquid that emits or displays ultraviolet (UV) light, specifically for visibility to birds. Participants emphasize that no liquid can generate light independently without an energy source, suggesting that the liquid must reflect UV light instead. The need for stability and non-toxicity is highlighted, along with inquiries about the intended application and surface area of the liquid. The conversation indicates that a deeper understanding of chemical properties and light interaction is essential for achieving the desired outcome.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic knowledge of UV light properties and visibility to avian species.
  • Understanding of chemical stability and non-toxic materials.
  • Familiarity with energy sources for light generation.
  • Knowledge of light reflection principles in liquids.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research non-toxic fluorescent dyes that reflect UV light.
  • Explore methods for stabilizing chemical mixtures for UV visibility.
  • Investigate energy sources that can be used to illuminate the liquid.
  • Learn about the interaction of UV light with different liquid surfaces.
USEFUL FOR

Chemists, environmental scientists, wildlife researchers, and product developers interested in creating UV-visible substances for avian applications.

HI Guys .. I really need some help on this ... I need to manufacture(mix) a liquid that 'displays' as UV light if that's the correct term.
any ideas where I could start ? I have limited chemicals knowledge :/

basically I want something that is stable, non toxic and can be seen by birds as UV light if that makes it more understandable lol

Welcome to the PF.

What are you going to use to power this liquid light? Can you just shine UV light into the liquid? What is the application? Can birds see UV light?

I assume you want something capable of reflecting UV light? I don't know of any liquid capable of "generating" any kind of light besides thermal infrared radiation. You would need to input energy, or be burning something.

What expanse of surface area are you aiming to have? All flat, or in rippley motion?
