How Do You Calculate Torque for a Climbing Robot?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the torque required for a climbing robot designed to ascend a glass panel using silicone vacuum pads and rubber wheels. The robot weighs 2 kg and operates with a vacuum pressure of 8"Hg connected to a positive 6V power supply. Participants emphasize the importance of understanding the relationship between weight, friction, and the torque output of the selected servo motor to ensure effective climbing performance.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of torque calculations
  • Familiarity with servo motor specifications
  • Knowledge of vacuum pressure effects on climbing mechanisms
  • Experience with weight distribution in robotic applications
NEXT STEPS
  • Research torque calculation formulas for robotic applications
  • Explore servo motor selection criteria based on load requirements
  • Investigate the impact of vacuum pressure on climbing efficiency
  • Learn about weight distribution techniques in climbing robots
USEFUL FOR

Robotics engineers, mechanical designers, and hobbyists interested in building climbing robots or optimizing robotic performance on vertical surfaces.

Dear all,

I would like to calculate the torque required for my application
my robot is suppose to climb up on a glass panel
the vacuum pad i am using is silicone, it has two rubber wheel to climb.
the weight of the robot is 2kg.

May i know how to calculate torque required for the servo selection?

thanks
