Hi guys
this is my first post so pardon me if their is any mistake.

How much does 1 million standard cubic metre per day (mmscmd) is in million british thermal unit (mmbtu)?

I am not a physics student, and don't know how it works.

Help by you people will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Firstly, the conversion between metric (SI) units and other types of units is always an approximation.

Secondly, from what I know, BTU is a unit of energy, and not volume. Therefore, your question is very hard to answer specifically, since cubic meter/day measures a certain volume rate, which BTU measures heat for example. The two can only be related in very specific problems, which you might have one for us.

If you have that problem, you might want to post it out. I am sure we can try to help you with the conversion.

28 mmscmd for 17 years at a price of USD 2.34 per mmbtu.

u don't need to bw bothered with 17 years or the price.

by googling i found this:

1 mmbtu/hr = 23300.971 ft^3/day = 2.33*10^-2 mmscfd

1mmbtu/hr = 23300.971 ft^3/day = 27.49 m^3/hr

1mmbtu/hr = 27.49 m^3/hr = 20.62 kg/hr

1 cubic metre (1 kilolitre) 35.3147 cubic feet

but not sure how to make use of it
 
For natural gas, the energy content is 23,000 BTU/pound.
Natural gas (CH4) mass is 16 grams per 22.41 liters at STP, or 714 grams per cubic meter at STP, or 1.576 pounds per cubic meter at STP, or 36,250 BTU per cubic meter at STP.
So a million cubic meters per day is about 36,250 million BTU per day at STP.

Note also that there is a common simple conversion used for gas volume to energy, without going through mass:

100 CCF = 1 Therm

CCF = 100 cubic feet. This is the unit natural gas is sold in in the US
1 Therm = 100,000 BTU (approximately - really, it's 102,000 if you want to be more precise).
