How does ladder logic apply to programable logic control

The PLC program is sometimes represented by "ladder logic". It looks similar to an old relay logic print and is simple to troubleshoot.
Each symbol highlights when true so it is obvious what is required for the process to continue...

This is AB or Rockwell

Structured text and Function block programming are also commonly used but are not as easy to troubleshoot IMHO.
