How, in GOD'S NAME, does one pronounce "Wolf-Rayet"

Very simple question - how is "Rayet" as in "Wolf-Rayet star" pronounced? I've heard:

- "Ray-ay"
- "Ray-et"
- "Ry-yet"
- "Ry-eee"

Somebody must know what the accepted French pronunciation is!

I say there! If what I want is the French pronunciation, then I say Rayet to rhyme with "I say".

Sometimes French pronunciation can sound affected though, so try to gauge your audience and pronounce it the way they expect and feel comfortable with.

Do you give Einstein the German pronunciation with a big juicy "shtein"? Or do you use the anglicized "stein"?

hi there,

i learned french in school and i would pronounce it "ray-eee", the a sounds like in gras with an GB accent. It should be this way because most words in french that end with et are pronounced "eee". But its difficult to say cause names are special cases in every country. so it could also be "ray-et".

just pronounce it as borat would and everybody will think its aaaight ;)

Is a homemade radio telescope realistic? There seems to be a confluence of multiple technologies that makes the situation better than when I was a wee lad: software-defined radio (SDR), the easy availability of satellite dishes, surveillance drives, and fast CPUs. Let's take a step back - it is trivial to see the sun in radio. An old analog TV, a set of "rabbit ears" antenna, and you're good to go. Point the antenna at the sun (i.e. the ears are perpendicular to it) and there is...
