How Is Average Speed Calculated for a Round Trip with a Lunch Break?

Click For Summary
To calculate the average speed for a round trip of 297.2 km with a lunch break, first determine the time taken for each segment of the trip. The first 148.6 km is traveled at 84.6 km/hr, resulting in a time of approximately 1.76 hours. The second segment of 148.6 km is covered at 50.6 km/hr, taking about 2.93 hours. Adding the 1.2-hour lunch break to the total travel time gives the overall time for the trip. The average speed is then calculated by dividing the total distance by the total time.

Homework Statement

Calculate the average speed of a complete round trip in which the first 148.6 km is covered at 84.6 km/hr, followed by a 1.2-hour lunch and the final 148.6 km is covered at 50.6 km/hr.

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

148.6+148.6/.569+1.2+.341 = wrong

Hi black_hole! :smile:

erm :redface:

speed = distance/time, so time = distance/speed. :wink:

Thread 'Correct statement about size of wire to produce larger extension'
The answer is (B) but I don't really understand why. Based on formula of Young Modulus: $$x=\frac{FL}{AE}$$ The second wire made of the same material so it means they have same Young Modulus. Larger extension means larger value of ##x## so to get larger value of ##x## we can increase ##F## and ##L## and decrease ##A## I am not sure whether there is change in ##F## for first and second wire so I will just assume ##F## does not change. It leaves (B) and (C) as possible options so why is (C)...
