AI Thread Summary
To calculate the source activity of a gamma source from the dose rate in microSieverts per hour (µSv/h) and the distance to the detector, one can use the inverse square law and the known gamma constant for the specific isotope. The formula involves rearranging the relationship between dose rate, distance, and activity. It is essential to ensure that the units are consistent when performing the calculations. Additional factors such as shielding and energy of the gamma rays may also need to be considered for accurate results. Understanding these principles will enable precise determination of the source strength.

TL;DR Summary
Calculate the Source activity or Source strength from Dose Rate in MCBEND
Hello evryone,
In the MCBEND simulation I've conducted, I have found the dose rate of a gamma source in microSieverts per hour (µSv/h). I also know the distance between the detector and the source. How can I calculate the source activity or strength from this information?
Thank you,
Best wishes

Hello, I'm currently trying to compare theoretical results with an MCNP simulation. I'm using two discrete sets of data, intensity (probability) and linear attenuation coefficient, both functions of energy, to produce an attenuated energy spectrum after x-rays have passed through a thin layer of lead. I've been running through the calculations and I'm getting a higher average attenuated energy (~74 keV) than initial average energy (~33 keV). My guess is I'm doing something wrong somewhere...
