Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the challenge of outputting monitor readings in MADX, specifically focusing on apparent beam position versus actual beam position, and how to incorporate monitor calibration errors into the output. The context is technical and application-oriented, as it pertains to beam position calibration in accelerator physics.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses difficulty in outputting monitor readings in MADX and seeks guidance on the necessary command to include monitor calibration errors.
  • The participant clarifies that they are not using any corrections in MADX but are applying errors to record their effects.
  • Another participant mentions a lack of background in MADX but points to a support site for potential assistance.
  • Several participants suggest reaching out to others in the forum who may have expertise in MADX.
  • One participant indicates they do not use MADX and notes that their beam position monitor is less sophisticated.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion does not reach a consensus, as multiple participants express varying levels of familiarity with MADX, and no specific solutions or commands are provided in response to the initial query.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not provided specific assumptions or definitions regarding the monitor readings or calibration errors, and there are unresolved questions about the appropriate commands in MADX.

TL;DR
Monitor beam position vs actual beam position
I am fairly new to MADX and having a little trouble understanding how to output the monitor readings (apparent beam position) rather than the actual beam position at that point in the accelerator.
I am trying to include monitor calibration errors but obviously this has no effect on the actual beam position, only on the monitor measurements, which I can't work out how to output.
Basically I'm asking if anybody knows the command I need to include this.
As a side note, I am not using any corrections in MADX but simply applying certain errors and recording their effects.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
(Let me know if there's anything you'd like me to clarify)

Hello Pphysicist:
I have no background in MAD-X, but I note that they have a support site: MAD-X Support
I have also pinged others in this forum in hopes of finding some specific MAD-X expertise.

Sorry, I don't use MADX. Our BPM is less sophisticated than that.
