I Hyperbolic Time Chamber: Is Time Dilation Theoretically Possible?

Has anyone ever watched dragon ball Z before? In this TV show, there is something called the hyperbolic time chamber. 1 day on Earth is equivalent to 1 Year in the time chamber. In other words, if you stayed in the chamber for a full 24hours than exactly 1 year would have passed when you left the chamber and stepped on earth. So my question is, would I have to travel the near the speed of light for that to happen or would the Earth have to travel near the speed of light relative to my stationary position for that to happen?

The Earth would have to travel at in excess of 99.9996% of the speed of light relative to you, stop, turn around, and return at the same speed. Over 9000, one might say.

Alternatively you can have the Earth hover near the event horizon of a super massive black hole while you stay elsewhere. Getting the Earth to and from the black hole on reasonable time and in one piece is left as an exercise for the reader.

You go into the chamber, live for a year, come out and only one day has passed on Earth?

You go into the chamber, live for a day, come out and a year has passed on Earth?

The former. It's a trick for when the villain has been training off-screen and the hero wasn't paying attention and needs to catch up, if I followed my son's painfully detailed lecture...

This sounds like it should more aptly be called the Coma-inducing Chamber.

You go in, stay for a short time, and when you come out it's a year later.

The Hyperbolic Time Chamber, also known as the "Room of Spirit and Time" or "Hypersonic Lion Tamer," is a fictional location in the popular manga and anime series Dragon Ball, created by Akira Toriyama. This chamber is primarily featured in the Dragon Ball Z series.

The Hyperbolic Time Chamber is located within Kami's Lookout, a floating temple in the series. It is a special training room where time flows at a different rate compared to the outside world. Inside the chamber:

  1. One year of time outside the chamber is equivalent to one day (24 hours) inside. This means that characters who train inside the chamber for a day can accumulate a year's worth of training.
  2. The chamber has intense gravity, which makes training inside it extremely challenging.
The Hyperbolic Time Chamber is used by the main characters of the series, including Goku and Gohan, to undergo intense training to prepare for powerful adversaries, such as the Saiyans and Cell. It plays a significant role in the Dragon Ball Z storyline, allowing the characters to make significant gains in their strength and abilities within a relatively short time.

The concept of a chamber with different time properties is a common trope in science fiction and fantasy, and the Hyperbolic Time Chamber is one of the most iconic examples of this concept in anime and manga.

I asked a question here, probably over 15 years ago on entanglement and I appreciated the thoughtful answers I received back then. The intervening years haven't made me any more knowledgeable in physics, so forgive my naïveté ! If a have a piece of paper in an area of high gravity, lets say near a black hole, and I draw a triangle on this paper and 'measure' the angles of the triangle, will they add to 180 degrees? How about if I'm looking at this paper outside of the (reasonable)...
Thread 'Relativity of simultaneity in actuality'
I’m attaching two figures from the book, Basic concepts in relativity and QT, by Resnick and Halliday. They are describing the relativity of simultaneity from a theoretical pov, which I understand. Basically, the lightning strikes at AA’ and BB’ can be deemed simultaneous either in frame S, in which case they will not be simultaneous in frame S’, and vice versa. Only in one of the frames are the two events simultaneous, but not in both, and this claim of simultaneity can be done by either of...
