Physics I am confused (which stream to choose for research?)

Click For Summary
The discussion centers on a student pursuing an MSc in physics who is preparing for the GATE/NTA NET exam and is uncertain about which research stream to choose. The student expresses a strong interest in solar energy, green energy, and mechanical engineering, despite not having an engineering background. The conversation suggests focusing on green energy as a viable research option, highlighting its relevance and potential for innovation in energy consumption. Further insights into the benefits of choosing green energy for academic research are encouraged to assist the student in making an informed decision.

Hello, I've bin the mid of my Msc in physics preparing for gate/ net exam 2023. I don't know which stream to choose for research.
I am highly highly interested in solar energy, green energy and mechanical engineering as well but I don't know what to do as I am not an engeenering student.
I want to be an innovator in energy consumption.
Some please help.

Some more insight on why the OP should choose green energy over the other alternatives will probably be helpful to the OP, especially from the perspective of academic research in that field.

For some background, I'm currently a 3rd year physics major with an astro specialization studying in Canada, and as undergraduates are want to do I'm regularly evaluating my career prospects down the road. I also plan on pursuing grad school when I've completed my degree. It might just be my anxiety acting up a little, but with a lot of the government funding drying up for public science research broadly in the US, the 'industry' everyone keeps talking about when questions like this are...
