Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the request for textbooks related to mathematical models, with a focus on various applications such as bacterial population growth, proteins, and the food industry. Participants share resources and suggest texts that may be suitable for different levels of understanding in mathematical modeling.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks for textbooks on mathematical models, indicating a general interest in the subject.
  • Another participant seeks clarification on what specific topics the requester wants to model.
  • Examples of topics mentioned include bacterial population growth, proteins, and applications in the food industry.
  • Several participants provide links to textbooks, including a suggestion for Stewart's calculus and specific titles like "Mathematical Modelling" by J Berry and K Houston, and "A Primer on Mathematical Modelling" by Quarteroni, Chiossi, and Gervasio.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for resources related to mathematical modeling, but there is no consensus on a specific textbook or approach, as various suggestions are made without a clear preference expressed.

Contextual Notes

Some responses assume a novice level of understanding, while others suggest more advanced texts, indicating a range of assumed prior knowledge among participants.

Just some examples of mathematical model about bacterial population growth, proteins, and
food industry.

Thank you:cool:

Hi,

I think this could be of some introductory help to you. I assume that your are searching for a novice introduction to the subject.

Mathematical Modelling by J Berry and K Houston

and an advanced text

A Primer on Mathematical Modelling (UNITEXT) by Quarteroni , Chiossi and Gervasio

Hope these are of some help to you in learning modelling related stuff.
