Identifying Tensile and Compressive Stress in Principal Stress Extraction

When extracting a Principal stress for the component, how to differentiate/separate/identify the tensile and compressive stress in it?

You can distinguish tensile and compressive principal stress as follows. Tensile stress is positive; compressive stress is negative.

if i get n positive components and n negative components, then it follows the same... ?as +ve tensile nad -ve compressive

Yes, components having positive stress have tensile stress. Components having negative stress have compressive stress.
