Increase FOV of Camera: Simple Tips & Tricks

i have a camera with the horizontal field of view as 40 cm, and vertical around 30 cm noted at around 5m from the camera.
I wish to increase the FOV of the camera. Please suggest me a few ways to accomplish that.

1. For a field of view measured in cm instead of degrees, stand further from your subject.
2. Buy a shorter focal length lens.
